Room 12 Speech Day - FANTASTIC, AMAZING, WOW

What can I say, our tamariki of Room 12 did us proud today.  They are such courageous and amazing students.  They all were remarkable and showed such poise and confidence in getting up in front of their classmates and a roomful of parents to give their speeches about themselves, their families and their cultures.   A very proud teacher is going home today with a huge smile on her face!

Thank you to all of the parents who could make it today and for the delicious shared lunch.

We are working on the videos at the moment and hopefully they will be on the blog by next week.  There is a photo here of the year 3s and 4s who were awarded 1st and 2nd places.  Thank you to Mr. McCann for judging our speeches, it was a very difficult task.

Well done to our two year 4 boys, Mitchell and Jonathan and the two year 3 girls Sovaia and Kaitlyn.

Update on Speech Day

The children have today prepared a written invitation today, inviting you to our Speech Day on Thursday, 26th June at 11.30 a.m.

We thought it would be a good idea to have a shared lunch afterwards, so if you could bring a plate or send a plate with your child that would be great.

The children are really excited and you could have heard a pin drop as they wrote out the invitations!

I hope you can make it, if not I will film the speeches and put them on the blog for you to view via You tube.

Cultural Concert - WOW

What an amazing performance by all of our children last night.  I was so proud of all of them and you parents should be bursting with pride too.

I thought our McKenna children really razzled and rocked their dance routines and looked fabulous in their costumes.

Room 12 children celebrated today with a delicious morning tea.

Photos are up on the main school website under Gallery.  Thank you to Nicola Murray for those.

Children's fabulous writing from last term

Last term the children explored Moment In Time writing, which is writing that uses descriptive language to trigger the senses as you read.    Here are a few to ponder, I felt like I was there too!

Scary Story by Charlie

I run as fast as I can because an angry lion is chasing me.  Then I see a big ravine and there is a vine so I jump onto the vine and swing across the ravine.  But I find out I’m not the only one in the jungle.  I see him, no face, no eyes so I kick him then scream and run.

For a moment I don’t see him and I look behind the tree “aaagghhhh he is right there!!! Help meeee.”  Then he is gone.  Where did he go?  I look down and up I also look behind me.  He is gone I think but he is now right behind me “aaaagghhh”.

Then I fall into the ravine.

Learning to ride my bike by Hollie

Heart beating really fast, I was frightened with fear then I got happier and happier.  My dad was cheering and shouting “you can do it!”

I’m doing it, I thought but I fell off the bike.  I got back on and I biked and biked.  I could see lots of things, the green tree, the green grass, the brown wood and the blue sky and my blue bike and Dad cheering.

I am happy, I am so happy.  I could see my dad behind me.  “I did it,” I yelled.

The Big Splash by Lucy

As I jump into the icy water, the strong wind blows against my face and blows my hair.  The noisy seagulls go squawk as loud as they can.  Beneath me I see a humungous turquoise greeny ocean.  Goose bumps, goose bumps 1, 2, 3.  Bubbly, big waves crashing towards me.  Aroma of sunlotion dripping down my friends’ backs, the aroma of glistening skin sticking to my tummy.

My soggy wet togs stick to my skin.  This heart of mine is beating so fast.  There is the sound of splashing down below.  As my feet touch the tip of the white topped water – SPLASH!  I dive in the water like a dolphin and swim like a mermaid all the way back to the shore to do it again.

Room 12's Speech Day

Well the Room 12 team have been busy preparing their speeches and they are really looking forward to presenting these to their family and whanau.   We are hoping to do this either in Week 7 or Week 8 of this term, after the Cultural Concert.  Keep a look out in your child's bag for the invitation.
